STOP, BREATHE AND SMILE & UNITY ON THE BAY ANNOUNCE THE “PRAYER FOR NEPAL: BENEFIT CONCERT FOR THE CHILDREN” FEATURING MANOSE & FRIENDS
MIAMI, FL – November 11, 2015: On December 5th, 2015 from 7-10PM, Stop, Breathe and Smile & Unity on the Bay will present the “Prayer for Nepal: Benefit Concert for the Children” featuring Manose & Friends. The event will take place at Unity on the Bay, 411 NE 21st St., in downtown Miami and will raise money to build schools for the children in Nepal.
After the earthquakes in Nepal in April and May of this year (2015), hundreds of thousands of people found themselves homeless. Villages have been completely destroyed in some areas. Deva Premal, Miten and Manose support “The Society for Street Children in Nepal” created by Eva Holmberg Tedert, a non-profit fundraising society working to provide permanent accommodation for street children. The Gayatri Fund, initiated by Deva Premal, Miten and Manose, funded many of their necessities in the early days and weeks after the earthquakes. They were able to help thousands of men, women, and children.
Now we must think about the future. Education is the only way out of poverty. A school is a precious commodity for children in remote villages. Children often walk long distances to attend their region’s only school. So, where rural schools have been demolished by the earthquakes, children have simply been left with nowhere to seek an education. The money that we raise though our fundraising efforts and Benefit Concert will go to build new schools in Nepal.
Manose Singh will be the featured artist performing at the concert. Manose is a native from Nepal and initiated the request for help with this project. While his formal education involved an exceedingly rigorous study and practice of Hindustani music and instrumentation, he is nonetheless quite intimate with many western musical forms and has an astonishing facility for improvisation within diverse scale structures.
From the demanding study of raga music, Manose has acquired technical mastery and an astonishing ability to improvise. When asked what or who has had the greatest musical influence on his playing, he replied, “The sound of the flute.” Along with Manose, local artists Jorge Alfano, Daniela De Mari and Breath of Life and Jeff Deen will also be performing at the concert.
Eva Holmberg Tedert, from Gavle, Sweden, started a home for girls 4 years ago located in Gokarna in the northeastern outskirts of Kathmandu. This is one of the hardest hit areas of Nepal by the earthquakes. She knows that education is the only solution here and, therefore, pays for education and housing for 8 students at the Medical College.
Eva met Manose at the “In the Light of Love” mantra week at Corfu in Greece where she went for the first time 2010. Deva and Miten also help her raise funds for her non-profit. They had heard about the work she was doing with the two orphanages in Kathmandu and recently helped her at a few concerts in Stockholm telling the audience about the fund raising opportunity to help the children in Nepal. After the earthquakes this year, Deva, Miten and Manose started to raise funds at all concerts on the European tour.
Eva is devoted to all of the children in Nepal that she is helping, but there is an additional emphasis on the young girls. It is crucial to make sure they have safe, adequate housing and schools. When asked why the need is so great, she replied, “We choose to focus more on the girls as they are often sold off to brothels in India. We have to get them before the human traffickers.”
Stop, Breathe and Smile is led by President Hal Martin, Vice President Marcia Martin, Secretary Adriana Araujo and a hard working volunteer staff. The organization has been producing Deva Premal, Miten and Manose concerts in Miami for the past 9 years, along with a variety of other fabulous artists during this timeframe.
Stop, Breathe and Smile creates and produces diverse conscious events that express Truth, Beauty and Oneness. Stop, Breathe and Smile creates a sanctuary to experience the mystery of the dreamer’s journey and nurtures a conscious community for universal awareness.
