Prayer for Nepal - Benefit Concert for the Children featuring Manose and Friends
After the earthquakes in Nepal in April and May of this year (2015), hundreds of thousands of people found themselves homeless. Villages have been completely destroyed in some areas.
Eva Holmberg Tedert, from Gavle, Sweden, opened a home for girls 6 years ago located in Gokarna in the northeastern outskirts of Kathmandu. She started The Society for Street Children in Nepal, which is a non-profit fund-raising society working to provide permanent accommodation for street children or those who risk becoming street children in Nepal. In addition to their usual work funded by sponsors in Sweden, they also supported a lot of people after the earthquakes this spring, with food, tents, tarps. Many of these necessities were funded by the Gayatri Fund initiated by Deva Premal, Miten and Manose. In the early days and weeks after the quake they were able to help thousands of men, women, and children to survive and persist. |
Many of the homes that the children have been staying were completely destroyed during the earthquakes. They were forced to relocate the children to a tent camp for the first 2 months after the quakes. After that, Eva was able to rent a new home for them to stay.
Now we are thinking about the future.
Manose & Eva believe education is the only way out of poverty. A school is a precious commodity for children in remote villages. Children often walk long distances to attend their region’s only school. So, where rural schools have been demolished by the quake, children have simply been left with nowhere to seek an education.
The best thing we can do for villages devastated by this natural disaster is to support villagers in providing a bright future for their youngsters. This is also in accordance with what the people in the villages want. They also understand how important it is for the kids to be able to read and write.
The Society will provide education for children and young people who would otherwise have no access to education. In addition, they will provide food for children still living on the streets.
The first village we will build a school is Rathankot in Sindupalchowk, hard struck by the quakes. All contributions go directly to the work carried out in Nepal.
All work carried out by the Society in Sweden is done by volunteers.
The money that we will be raising though our fundraising efforts will be going to build the new school in Rathankot. The project will be run by experienced local building contractors supported by Eva’s organization AND YOUR DONATIONS.
We are so grateful for the love you have shown to the people of Nepal!
